Our Mission:
Our mission at HEROnet is to facilitate mental and physical healthcare that is readily accessible to our American Veterans. We will employ cutting edge technologies to ensure our Veterans have the most advanced treatments available in Telemedicine. HEROnet is dedicated to the health of our Veterans and is determined to provide America’s HEROES with convenient, secure healthcare options.
Meet Our Director:
Greetings from the HEROnet Team,When I returned from my second tour in Iraq, I knew that something was not right. I was experiencing anxiety, insomnia, depression, and had even thought of hurting myself and others. I sought help. After meeting with a mental health professional, it was determined that I suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It was recommended that I meet with a professional every 2 weeks. The problem was that these appointments were over 700 miles round trip from my hometown. I didn't attend my appointments and eventually stopped scheduling them altogether. It wasn't because I didn't want or need the help anymore. It was because the mental health facility was too far away, required too much time off from work, and resulted in too much missed pay. This is where I got the idea for HEROnet.
HEROnet is in the first phase of establishing ourselves as a not-for-profit organization. This is a not-for-profit organization established by a Veteran, for our Veterans. We are striving to alleviate the burden of long distance travel, missed work, and stressful office visits. We will do this by placing Remote Health Terminals near our Veterans hometowns. These RHTs will be equipped with large screen monitors, high resolution cameras, secure communications software and all the amenities necessary to enable our Veterans to conduct comfortable video-conferencing sessions, or 'Telemedicine', with mental health and healthcare professionals over a secure HIPAA compliant system.
HEROnet is a project that is very important to me. I have witnessed firsthand the devastation to a family and community when a soldier takes their own life. I have experienced the discomfort and stress of knowing that the help I needed was out there, but almost unattainable. I do not want any other Veteran to experience that same feeling of helplessness. Help us help our HEROES.
Sincerely,
Cody Johnson
